HOW SALT HURTS YOUR BRAIN

New research from scientists at Well Cornell Medicine in New York City gave mice 16 time their normal intake of salt. Within eight weeks they observed a dramatic drop in blood flow to the cortex and hippocampus, two regions of your brain associated with memory and learning. After three months the mice were suffering from cognitive decline nd struggled to navigate a maze and respond normally to stimulation.
The researchers believe their findings apply to humans as well. The brain function was restored when they returned to a normal diet.
My advise is read you labels. See how much Sodium (Salt is 40% Sodium) is in the processed food you are about to eat.
Salt is used as a preservative, as well as a flavoring agent.

PROTECT YOURSELF FROM ALZHEIMER’S WITH THESE FOODS

1. Go Nuts with Walnuts. Walnuts contain Omega-3 fatty acids (good fats) that your brain needs. Your brain is made up of 60% good fats.
Walnuts also contain Vitamin E and flavonoids which protect your brain.

2. Fatty Fish: Such as Wild Salmon, Mackerel, Cod, Halibut, Sardines and Anchovies. Salmon is especially high in Omega-3’s which can lower levels of
beta-amyloid, a protein which is thought to play a role in Alzheimer’s Disease. If you don’t eat 8 oz’s of this type of fatty fish per week,
then take a supplement of Krill oil.

3. Berry, Berry- Good for you. yes, Berries such as Blueberries (which I call Brain Berries), Strawberries and Cranberries are all good for your brain.

4. Go Green- Spinach, Kale and other Leafy vegies. Studies sow Women in their 60’s who ate more leafy veggies over time, did better than those that did not.
Also Vitamin C, found in Spinach, may help prevent Dementia.

5. Tumeric- acive ingredient Curcumin. This is the spice in curry, can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease. UCLA researchers found that Vitamin D3 taken with Curcumin, may help your immune system to get rid of the amino acid (building blocks of protein) that form the plaque in your brain that is associated with Alzheimer’s.

6. Chocolate- Dark Not Milk chocolate. Dark Chocolate contains flavonoids can slow down the effects of dementia.

7. Resveratrol- found in Red Wine and Red Grapes. This substance which has been shown to prevent heart disease, is now being studied for it’s ability to prevent or at least
slow the progression of Alzheimer’s.

OLIVE OIL LOWERS BREAST CANCER RISK

Researchers asked more than 4,000 women between the ages of 60 and 80 to follow one of three diets, a Mediterranean diet infused with extra-virgin olive oil. a Mediterranean diet rich in nuts, or a low-fat diet. After 5 years, the extra virgin olive oil dieters had a 68% reduced risk for breast cancer. The Mediterranean diet is also low in meat, dairy and sugar.

AN ALCOHOLIC DRINK AT NIGHT, CAN DISRUPT YOUR SLEEP

A study published in the Journal, Alcohol: Clinical and Experimental Research showed that alcohol changes the normal rhythms of your sleep, by increasing the amount
of time you spend in deep sleep. Alcohol decreased the amount of time you spend in Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, by disrupting sleep during this stage, which is necessary
for memory, concentration and motor skills.
If you are going to drink alcohol, make sure it is earlier in the evening, not at bedtime.
