A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2017, showed that when 3,350 overweight or obese people aged 55 to 80 were followed for four years. Those who consumed the most saturated fat (usually solid at room temperature) were twice as likely to be diagnosed with type 2 as those who consumed the least.
Butter and cheese were linked to a higher risk, while full-fat yogurt was linked with a lower risk.
