Polypharmaceuticals is defined as taking 4 or more drugs per day. They can be prescription and over the counter or behind the counter (psedoephedine) medicines.
A study published in the Journal, Injury prevention, studied 687 people by the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
The study found that taking multiple medicines causes falls among people of all ages.
Most people think this is a problem among older adults, but a new study found that young and middle-aged adults were 2.5 times as likely to have fall related injuries as
those who took fewer medicines.
The drugs most associated with falling were blood pressure and cholesterol lowering drugs, including statins example – Lipitor.
My advise is if you are taking 4 or more RX drugs, be very careful when walking, getting out of bed or while driving a car.
